Bad news to share… barnstable beaches don’t allow dogs in the summertime. This includes all public beaches in Hyannis, Centerville, Osterville, and Cotuit.
But like many towns on cape cod, you can take your dogs in the offseason.
- Dogs are not allowed on barnstable beaches in the summertime, from May 15th – September 15th
- Leashed dogs are allowed on beaches in the offseason, from september 16th – may 14th
- Dogs are not allowed in protected areas that are closed due to piping plovers nesting
How to get a beach sticker in Barnstable
Barnstable sells beach parking stickers for residents, and non residents can get weekly or seasonal stickers.

Dogs are not allowed off-leash on beaches in Barnstable and Hyannis, even in the offseason. If you want an off-leash dog beach during the summer, you’ll need to visit Provincetown which allows dogs to run free on the dog beach off of Commercial Street in the mornings and evenings.

Sandy Neck Beach is a six mile barrier beach with orv trails that let you drive on the beach. an oversand driving permit is required.
It’s a cool beach that gets packed in the summer. but dogs are not allowed starting May 15th through mid-September.
