Things to do after you finish eating

So you’ve finished filling your face and need something to do. The good news is eastham and nearby towns are loaded with things to do with your dog. Here are some pet-friendly activities to enjoy:

Dog-friendly beaches on cape cod

There are lots of dog-friendly beaches on cape cod, but eastham is one of the many towns don’t allow pets on the public beaches during the summertime.  Keep this in mind when planning day trips to the beach, you’ll need to wait for the offseason.

Luckily eastham is home to two cape cod national seashore beaches: Nauset light beach and coast guard beach.

If you’re staying in this area, plan to take a day trip to visit at least one of the beaches of the cape cod national seashore with your dog.  the national seashore allows dogs all summer long… unless access gets restricted by nesting piping plovers, which seems to start a bit earlier and last a bit longer every year.

Both Nauset Light and Coast Guard are frequently closed to pets in the summer. But usually one or two other national seashore beaches stays open to pets, such as the left side of herring cove beach.

check the national seashore site’s pets page for updates on that. There are pet-friendly dining options nearby all of the national seashore beaches if you’re making the road trip from Eastham.

About the Town of Eastham

Eastham is known as the gateway to the cape cod national seashore, which was founded in 1961 by John F. Kennedy to protect the beautiful shoreline.

Eastham was the site of the 1620 landing of a hunting party from the sailing vessel Mayflower, which had stopped in Provincetown harbor on Cape Cod Bay after a rough journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The first contact between the Pilgrims and the native Nauset people occurred at what is now known as First Encounter Beach.

Eastham is home to Nauset Lighthouse and also the Three Sisters lighthouses nearby. Learn more about visiting cape cod lighthouses.
