Orleans
Nauset Beach
This one is kind of a stretch for most campers. But the best overall views fro a camper on Cape Cod may be found on the ORV trails of Nauset Beach in Orleans and Chatham.
You’ll need to have a self-contained camper capable of driving through miles of sometimes soft sand. Permanently mounted waste storage is a must to pass the inspection for the oversand driving sticker. Slide in campers on 4 wheel drive trucks make it easy. Shorter motorhomes of all varieties dot the shores, many rear wheel drive only. No tent camping is allowed.
Nauset Beach lets you camp anywhere on the ORV trails that is open. This gives you some room to spread out. Although during the summer day visitors will pack the place in, so its hardly a private camping experience unless you go much earlier or later in the season.
Keep in mind that camping on Nauset Beach is impacted by the closing of the oversand driving trails for much of the summer. So avoid planning to camp here in July or early August, and have a backup plan just in case.

Race Point Beach
Self-contained campers can get passes to camp directly on Race Point Beach. The camping area is accessible from ORV beach trails and you park right by the water. It’s quite an amazing place to camp. Dogs are allowed to camp here (subject to restrictions for nesting shorebirds).
Beautiful sunsets and waking up to crashing waves a few yards from where you slept. Great surfcasting if you’re looking to nail a striped bass. Some guys tow small boats out to fish for tuna and bass, the water is very deep a short distance offshore. During summer you’ll see whales feeding from your beach chair.
The campers here are packed in like sardines as the designated camping area is usually pretty small. And the beach is closed to all vehicles for a big chunk of the summer due to piping plovers, so the camping season is limited.
But your National Seashore ORV sticker gets you 2 weeks of camping per year at Race point.. Some campers stay in the nearby Province Lands visitor center or the Herring Cove Beach parking lot when the camping area of Race Point beach is closed for plovers.
