the town of barnstable is the largest community on cape cod. while the beaches don’t allow dogs in the summertime, there are some great activities for dogs available year round.
Barnstable offers great activities for dogs including trails for dog walks, and some interesting people- and dog-watching opportunities available in the shopping area of Main Street, Hyannis.

Dog-friendly hotels in barnstable
There a few hotels in Hyannis and Barnstable that allow dogs. It’s best to book early to get a room in the summer, the best options for pet owners fill up quickly. You can search Expedia.com to see what hotels have rooms available. We’ve tried other sites but that one was the easiest.
There’s also a bunch of Hyannis rental properties that are pet-friendly, including some beachfront cottages. Your best bet is to search Vrbo to see what’s available. Booking way in advance is recommended to get the best spots.

Dog Regulations for Barnstable beaches
Beaches in barnstable allow dogs from september 16th – may 14th. pets are not allowed on Barnstable beaches during the summer season, from May 15 through September 15 each year.
Pets not allowed in protected areas that are closed due to piping plovers nesting. These dog rules apply for hyannis beaches as well.

Main street hyannis can get pretty busy in the summertime, and is a good place to people watch with your dog. most of the establishments aren’t looking for dogs to enter, but there are a few with outdoor patios that can accommodate people with pets.

barnstable dog park
Dog lovers in barnstable are eagerly awaiting the opening of the barnstable dog park in the summer of 2016.
The planned 22 acre barnstable park will feature three enclosed dog areas with rounded fencing to avoid dogs getting cornered.
The dog park will be located near hathaway’s pond. See below for information on the Hathaway Pond trail, a nice place to walk your dog.
