Things to do after you finish eating

So you’ve finished filling your face and need something to do. The good news is Orleans and nearby towns are loaded with things to do with your dog. Here are some pet-friendly activities to enjoy:

Dog-friendly beaches on cape cod

There are lots of dog-friendly beaches on cape cod, but Orleans doesn’t allow pets on the public beaches during the summertime. Keep this in mind when planning day trips to the beach. you’ll need to wait for the offseason, or drive further a bit to find beaches with summertime pet access .

Dogs are allowed on the ORV trails of Nauset Beach in the summer, at least when they’re not closed for much of the summer due to nesting shorebirds.

In the offseason, both Nauset Beach and Skaket Beach are great options. Nauset Beach has an expansive beach with the rugged waves and cold water temperatures of the open Atlantic Ocean. Skaket Beach offers much calmer conditions with large tidal flats that stretch on endlessly at low tide.

If you’re staying in this area with your dog, plan to take a day trip to visit at least one of the beaches of the cape cod national seashore.  the national seashore allows dogs all summer long.

check the national seashore site’s pets page for updates on that. There are pet-friendly dining options nearby all of the national seashore beaches if you’re making the road trip from Orleans.

About the Town of Orleans, MA

Orleans has some of the nicest beaches you’ll find on cape cod. Nauset Beach is our favorite cape cod beach, offering miles of majestic sand dunes and powerful surf. It’s a shark hotspot, so don’t paddle out too far!

Skaket beach offers a delightful counterbalance with its warmer, calmer waters. The beach isn’t too large at high tide, but as the tide goes out and the flats emerge and the beach stretches out deep into Cape Cod bay.

orleans is also popular with boaters and kayakers. Launch points at the town landing and rock harbor are great for even novice kayakers and paddle boarders. dogs aren’t allowed at the beaches during the summer season, but there are lots of dog-friendly restaurants in Orleans, MA and even more activities, so have fun!
